G17 Madrid - Designing for 2050

01. Dezember 2018

Six European Green Building Councils joined forces and formed the G17 network to achieve the objectives behind the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and fight climate change.

UN Sustainable Development Goal 17

More than 25 years – a quarter of a century – have passed since the publication of the first Assessment Report of the IPCC in the early 1990s that established anthropogenic climate change as a scientific certainty. The signs have gotten clearer each year, the warnings of the scientific community have gotten sterner and the window to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change has gotten smaller.

To provide guidance on the path to a healthier environment and a more just society, the United Nations published seventeen global Sustainable Development Goals that define a desirable future and appropriate indicators to measure progress towards it.

Yet, changes in the way we deal with our planet have been small, although many pledges to do better have been made by governments and businesses around the globe. Nonetheless, we have also seen role models in business and civil society accepting the various challenges and take the lead towards more responsible and sensible (business) practices.

It is these leaders the G17 network wants to bring together – to show what is already possible, to lead by example and to form new partnerships for innovative solutions.
