The new 6-storey i/zwo office building for the Hannover utility supply company Enercity opens up towards the new public transport stop “Braunstreet”, welcoming staff and visitors alike.
The main design idea is the generous, daylight-flooded atrium, which is animated at the ground floor animated through a fitness area, conference suites and the restaurant, which faces onto the park. The atrium serves as the central meeting point, a place for encounter and exchange. As in the case of a city square, bridges, ramps and staircases connect the different departments spread over the upper floors. Main circulation cores are opened up toward the atrium, creating areas promoting communication; the networking areas. These provide direct access to the office zones and service areas, such as copy rooms and kitchens. The atrium is illuminated via generous rooflights, which define the form of the roof.
The networking areas are connected to each other via bridges and pathways creating horizontal and vertical neighborhoods, centred around the atrium. The main purpose of the areas is for meeting others. Large wooden tables, benches to the rear of the balustrading, sofas and armchairs offer a wide variety of situations, which stimulate communication in an informal atmosphere. The workplace is no longer confined to the individual office. The building and the patterns of use reinforce the company’s identity.
